JESSICA CODE TRANSLATED INTERVIEW WITH NEIL MOODIE.

1) What makes you standout from the other hair stylists?

NM: As an editorial stylist it’s important to try and create a style that is unique and recognisable to you. I’ve always taken traditional hairstyling and tried to re-invent it by changing the textures of hair usually seen for those styles eg: making a smooth style more matte textured,  or re-design old hairstyle shapes by adding a twist to the shape, or positioning the hairstyle in a different way.

2) Who is the most unforgettable famous person you have worked with and why?

NM: FEMALE: Chrissie Hynde – The lead singer from the Pretenders. I was a huge fan of the band and its music so to meet her and cut her hair felt like such an honour. It was like meeting one of my heros. MALE: Working with Roger Federer the tennis player. I’m a huge tennis fan and to meet one of the best tennis players ever was an absolute treat, plus he was the nicest man ever.  I cut his hair just before he played at WImbledon for a shoot for US Vogue.

3) What are the upcoming hair trends of spring summer 2015?

NM: SOFT WAVES:  – I called it the Woodstock Wave ( festival girl hair) : as seen at Burberry Prorsum, Blugirl, Vera Wang, Versace and Isabel Marant. LOW SLUNG PONYTAILS: Tied very low in the nape of the neck as seen at MSGM, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Gucci, Fendi, Stella McCartney. CARTOON ANIMATION INSPIRED HAIRSTYLES: Hairstyles based on cartoon characters- more playful graphic hairstyle shapes as seen at Corrie Neilson, Marc By Marc Jacobs,  Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen and Moschino

4) What are your latest shows in fashion week?

NM: Burberry Prorsum, MSGM, Blugirl , Angelo Marani.

5) What are the ‘Dos” and “Don’ts” before hair setting?

NM: Always prepare the hair with the correct styling products first. Freshly clean hair isn’t always the best way to start setting hair because when it is freshly washed the hair is too shiny and clean so the style won;t hold. Windle and Moodie Thickening Cream is the ideal preparation product and W&M Matte Texture Spray is perfect to give the hair some grip.

6) How often do you have a hair cut? Do you serve yourself?

NM: I don’t cut my hair regularly because I don’t always have time to have it done, although I do keep it short. I normally cut it very short each time so it will last as long as possible. Because I have curly hair I can get away with leaving it longer in between haircuts. I have cut my own hair in the past but I cannot cut the back very well, and I like to go to get it cut as it’s nice to have the salon experience.
