Debbie Harry aka Blondie, punk rock style icon of the 70’s was the ultimate rock chic. With her two toned bleach blonde hair coupled with those amazing jutting cheekbones she was an absolute stunner!! Every girl I knew at school wanted to be her!! She hung out with the likes of Iggy Pop, Bowie and Warhol. Moving from New Jersey to New York, she dabbled in painting, formed a folk rock group and worked as a Playboy bunny girl. She had style and attitude and has been a huge role model for other girl singers over the years. She claims being a social butterfly introduced her to Heroin and becoming a drug addict for a couple of years but also claims everything fell apart at that same time.
She was called Blondie for obvious reasons but there were moments when she had brown hair too and we’ve managed to find online some early pics of her with brown hair and even her natural colour. She starred in a few films and TV shows with her most memorable ones being, Videodrome and John Walters Original classic, Hairspray which she starred brilliantly alongside Divine, with some fantastic hair-do’s too.
Debbie also sat for Andy Warhol at The Factory in the 80’s and that portrait is one of her prized possessions (see the picture below!)
Take a look at some of the other amazing photographs of Debbie and some old video footage below of some of my favourite Blondie tracks.
The pictures above are of another classic Blondie image of Debbie licking vinyl. This was used as the picture disc version of Blondie’s seminal LP Parallel Lines plus for the cover of the “Picture This” single. It was taken by British photographer Martyn Goddard in 1978.
